Apple has unveiled a new version of the popular mobile phone iPhone. iPhone 4 has a metal case, two cameras and an improved display. At the same time he is 24% thinner than its predecessor. Apple chief Steve Jobs said that new development is the “biggest step” in the history of iPhone.
But specialists say that the further growth of the popularity of iPhone may interfere with tight control over the Apple software that is used in the phone.
The announcement was made at the presentation during the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco. Phone goes on sale June 24. Price model with memory in the 32 GB is U.S. $ 299. Cheaper version of the memory capacity of 16 GB will sell for $ 199.
The impression from the presentation of the new phone was spoiled by the fact that Internet blog Gizmodo has published online the details of the prototype of this phone is left in a bar by a member of Apple. Recognizing this mistake, Steve Jobs said at the presentation, introducing new product: “Some of you have already seen it.”
The new version of the iPhone offers many opportunities, which, according to experts, not enough in the previous model.
He has two cameras – one front and one behind. It allows the video talks, although so far only on wi-fi connection. The new phone also supports high-definition video (high-definition). iPhone4 apparently differs little from its predecessor, but it is thinner and has a metallic Copus.
Among other devices – a gyroscope, which, together with the existing compass and an accelerometer lets the phone to react to movements in three dimensional space. This, in turn, expands the possibilities for video games and other software applications that can be controlled by moving the phone in various planes.
“These phones are becoming more and more clever in relation to the world around them” – said Steve Jobs. Apple chief also outlined the differences between the new operating system the phone, which is now called iOS. In particular, it allows you to run multiple applications simultaneously. The phone can use the search engine Bing, though Google remains the main option, and Yahoo – the second option.
According to the company Gartner, iPhone currently occupies 15% of smartphone market, behind market leader Blackberry and Symbian. Android operating system company Google has won 10% of the market, followed by Window’s mobile firms Microsoft c 7%.
Despite the strong position in the smartphone market, analysts warned Apple of the competition from Google. “The increasing popularity of Google Android in the last two years has been phenomenal. It allows manufacturers to create interesting and, importantly, cheaper alternative to the iPhone”, – said Adam Leach, an analyst firm Ovum. “These devices offer greater freedom to use the content in comparison with the iPhone and therefore may be more attractive to the consumer” – warns Leach.
